EVENTS: GOTOTWIN Contributes to AI & Blue Economy Dialogue in Bologna
On 12 February 2026, the GOTOTWIN project took part in the international event
“Artificial Intelligence, Blue Economy and Interreg Synergies – Connecting Ideas and Territories through AI”, organised under the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme in Bologna.
The event gathered institutional representatives, researchers, programme authorities and EU-funded projects to explore how Artificial Intelligence can address concrete territorial challenges in energy, fisheries, environmental monitoring and sustainable regional growth. GOTOTWIN was invited to contribute to the session Experiences from Other Interreg and Mainstream Programmes which featured selected projects from Interreg, Horizon Europe and Digital Europe presenting insights on the strategic value of AI for regional development
During the session, GOTOTWIN shared its experience in:
- Applying AI-driven Digital Twin technology to optimise renewable energy systems
- Building cross-border data ecosystems across the Adriatic–Ionian region
- Supporting evidence-based energy planning through real-time monitoring and simulation
- Translating advanced digital technologies into practical territorial solutions
Although GOTOTWIN focuses primarily on renewable energy systems, the discussion highlighted strong synergies with the application of AI. Energy infrastructure, sustainability and digital transformation are increasingly interconnected across European territories.
The exchange of experiences confirmed the growing importance of collaborative innovation frameworks supported by Interreg and other EU programmes. Artificial Intelligence, when combined with Digital Twin platforms and territorial cooperation, can significantly strengthen sustainable development strategies.
